Artistic Greetings from Eileen Downes:
Stories Behind The Art…

Blue Butterfly Campaign Art Auction Title: Angel Wings...Signed Limited Edition Giclee Print (available at the auction)
Please allow me to tell you this amazing story: (excerpt taken from Eileen Downes newsletter with her permission)
Max was a gentle 7-year old boy with an old soul and dry sense of humor. On July 13, 2000, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and given a 10 percent chance of survival. After seven months of fighting hard, enduring three rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and a cord blood transplant, Max lost his battle on February 15, 2001. He fought with dignity and courage beyond his years and he will always be a hero.
In addition to raising money for AML research, the Blue Butterfly Campaign www.BlueButterflyCampaign.org offers parents suggestions and next steps on what to do from diagnosis through treatment. No parent and child should stand alone in this battle. Now, the internet and social networking sites such as Facebook are amazing tools at connecting people who don’t know each other…and that is exactly how my collage, found its way to the Blue Butterfly Campaign. Through an internet search, I “stumbled” upon this non-profit organization, and felt the nudgings of God to contact them (those of you who know me well, know that I try very hard to follow those feelings). I posted an image of Angel Wings on their web page…and then I realized that this group…this fundraising effort for AML…this program for awareness, must have one of these Giclee prints to help with their fundraisng efforts.
You see, eventhough I had actually made this collage painting many years before I knew anything at all about the little boy named Max or the Blue Butterfly Campaign, this piece was made for them…and here’s why: • It’s a blue butterfly! • Butterflies are the universal symbol of Hope • Blue is the color of Healing • The piece is from my God’s Wings Series • The title is “Angel Wings” • These words are in the collage: “Biology 101,” “Perfect,” “Restful,” “Patients.” Isn’t that a great story? I am honored to offer a limited edition Giclee print to be auctioned off in this wonderful fundraiser.
